Susi Air is still in operation as a charter airline based in West Java. The airline operates charter flights out of four main bases, including East Jakarta, Medan, Balikpapan and Jayapura.

Airlines History

Susi Air has been in operation since 2004. The airline was originally created by Susi Pudjiastuti to transport fisheries cargo to its sister company PT ASI Pudjiastuti. Following the 2004 earthquake in the Indian Ocean and subsequent tsunamis, Susi Air’s aircraft were deployed to various locations to provide relief. In 2005, Susi Air purchased an additional Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft to begin its cargo services once again. By the end of 2007, Susi Air added a fourth Grand Caravan to its fleet as well as a Diamond Twin Star aircraft for charter flight use. The airline now operates a fleet of Piaggio Avanti II, Cessna Grand Caravan, Pilatus Porter, Dornier, Air Tractor, Diamond Twin Star, Piper Archer, Agusta Grand and Agusta Koala aircraft.

Susi Air remains an active airline in Indonesia. However, the airline specifically serves cargo and charter flights. Susi Air now accesses numerous destinations in Java, Kalimantan, the Lesser Sunda Islands, Maluku, Papua and Sumatra.

I had never been on a helicopter before my flight experience on Susi’s Augusta Grand A109S, which happens to be the fastest twin-engine helicopter in the world. The noise wasn’t nearly as loud as I expected, and I had just as much fun getting to and from my resort as I did when I was there. The luxurious cabin felt like a five-star experience in itself. My kids and I will never forget this experience, and we plan on flying another Susi charter flight on our next visit to Indonesia.

I recently flew with four friends on one of Susi Air’s Grand Caravan aircraft to Biak, Papua. The flight was fast, the seats were far more spacious than a commercial aircraft, and we were able to fly in less-than-desirable weather conditions. Landing in Biak is always interesting, because the runway is not always in perfect condition, but the pilot and aircraft made the landing seem flawless. I’m so glad there is an airline accessing such remote parts of Indonesia, because I have many more Indonesian towns, cities and often untraveled islands on my bucket list.

Susi Air is the best of the best for charter flights throughout Indonesia. I enjoyed a VIP charter experience on the airline’s cozy Piaggio Avanti II seven-seat airplane. The flight was nothing but smooth and luxurious. The seats were spacious, and all of the members of our party enjoyed the first-class catering.
