Wai Oti Airport (MOF), also known as Maumere Airport, is an airport serving Maumere, the largest town on the island of Flores, in the province of East Nusa Tenggara in Indonesia. Maumere has good air connections. Merpati has five flights a week to/from Kupang, four to/from Labuanbajo and five to/from Denpasar with connections to Jakarta. Transnusa has daily flights to Kupang.

Maumere city info

Maumere, with the population of 79,000 is the largest town of Flores, Indonesia. It lies on the north coast of the island and the port is in the northwest part of the town. The Maumere Airport is located in Maumere. The town suffered considerable damage in the 1992 Indonesia earthquake, with 90 percent of all buildings being destroyed.

Maumere is the biggest city in Flores island. It's a good starting point for travels to other cities or attraction in Flores like Ende, Kelimutu mountain, Larantuka, Lembata, etc. In fact, it's one of the main gateways to Flores, and it is well connected with Bali and Timor. The reefs in in areas surrounding Maumere (the Maumere Gulf) were once considered some of the finest diving in the world. However, a 2007 report found that 75% of the coral reefs had been significantly damaged or destroyed by the practice of bomb fishing, the use toxic chemicals in fishing, and due to earthquakes.The town is the major centre of the Sikkanese language and culture, which extends east between central Flores and Larantuka. This area has been one of the chief centres of Catholic activity and missions in Flores since Portuguese Dominicans arrived some 400 years ago.
