Airlines History

Kartika Airlines was based in Jakarta, Indonesia, at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport with a hub at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport. The airline was founded in 2001 to operate domestic flights from Jakarta to Medan, Palembang, Semarang, Yogyakarta and Pangkalan Bun. Kartika Air operated a fleet of Boeing 737-200 aircraft, Boeing 737-400 aircraft and McDonnell Douglas MD-83 aircraft. After halting airline operations in 2004 and resuming them in 2005, the airline officially ceased all operations in 2010.

Airlines Bankrupcy

Kartika Airlines endured numerous ups and downs from the airline’s establishment in 2001 to the end of its operations in 2010. A number of factors led to the company’s bankruptcy. The airline’s license was ultimately suspended by the Department of Transportation because its fleet of aircraft could not meet the industry’s standards due to financial problems. Kartika Airlines has now been blacklisted by the European Union Civil Aviation Authority.

All of my flights with Kartika have been comfortable and enjoyable. The cabin crew is always friendly, and I almost always receive an exit row to accommodate my long legs. The seats are comfortable and the flight to Medan always seems to be over before I know it. I always choose Kartika when flights are available, because they seem to offer the most bang for my bunk. I look forward to flying with them on more flights to my favorite cities in Indonesia in the future.

I travel to these destinations at least once a month, so it really pays to have an affordable option that can get me to my destination on time. In all of my flights with Kartika, I’ve only experienced one or two delays. To me, they are the most reliable and affordable option for flying within Indonesia.
