Check this Quick Guide to learn how a smart traveler can save on flight tickets by applying promotions and taking advantage of airlines' frequent flyer programs.
Take advantage of AirAsia’s special offers in 2020 if you are flying to or from Australia, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, US, Vietnam. Please check the list of all AirAsia destinations.
AirAsia Sale 2022
AirAsia runs sales regularly. Some of them celebrate popular holidays (Chinese New Year, Christmas, Waisak, Idul Fitri, Hari Merdeka – Independence Day, long weekends) or special events such as music festivals, carnivals, sports games, anniversaries, and so on.
Most of AirAsia sales are short term, lasting up to a few weeks and covering flights in the next 1-3 months. During this time travelers will be able to snap up flight tickets at unbelievably low prices. It’s not uncommon to catch a return AirAsia X flight from Asia to Europe below A$300 (~$200, ~S$270).
CONCLUSION: Check for sales before important dates in the calendar. Be prepared to fly out pretty soon.
AirAsia Super Sale / Mega Sale / Free Seat
AirAsia Super Sale AKA Mega Sale is the event where the airfare gets cut 50% or more. The best sales to look for are these labeled Zero-Fare Sale or Free Seat Sale, where the AirAsia base fare is zero, and all you need to pay for a ticket are the airport’s fees and taxes (expect A$5 – A$15 / $3 – $10 / RM12 – RM40).
AirAsia runs three to five Mega Sales per year, and obviously they are huge in popularity. Each sale has a limited number of “gratis tickets” on offer (don’t expect them to last long) and they are only available on the AirAsia website. Often, only logged-in members of AirAsia BIG loyalty program can see them. So don’t waste your time looking for these super cheap fares on sites such as Skyscanner.
THE CATCH: The holy grail of all bargain-hunters comes in limited numbers and may be difficult to get. Be ready to act quickly.
AirAsia BIG Sale
AirAsia BIG is the airline’s frequent flyer loyalty program. BIG Point you earn, later can be redeemed for free flights or used to save on additional kgs of check-in baggage. When redeeming a regular flight, 1000 BIG Points seem to be worth around A$3.6 ($2.3 / S$3.2 / RM10).
Even if you don’t feel like collecting points, being a BIG member has one important advantage: it gives you priority access to BIG Sale events. During BIG Sale prices drop to unusually low levels, sometimes to zero (pre-taxed base fares). Most important: only logged-in BIG members can view these exclusive, discounted tickets. You can learn about the next BIG promotion from the AirAsia website, newsletter, or by contacting their support on live chat.
ACTIONABLE TIP: If you are not a BIG member yet, this is a good time to create an account. Then just wait for the next BIG Sale.
AirAsia Promotion / Deal
With its ambition to be the largest air travel network in the region, AirAsia is constantly coming up with new flight promotions. Those special deals are often country targeted – for example in the Philippines, the best deals are called Piso Fare Promo (the base fare is 1 peso, plus fees and taxes). Similar deals can be found for Australia, Malaysia, Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, etc.
THE CATCH: Always read the Terms & Conditions carefully, as they usually contain a list of restrictions aimed at limiting the number of people eligible to book a promo ticket. Some “amazing deals” seem to be just a marketing gimmick, allowing the airline to widely advertise the brand with a magnet-like name (“70% off To Your Dream Destinations”), while the small print narrows it down to a few unpopular routes, to students only, and demands that the purchase must be made with a credit card from an exotic issuer.
BOTTOM LINE: At Promo Radar we sieve out such low-value promotions.
AirAsia Promo Code
AirAsia promo code (or voucher, coupon) is a short series of letters and numbers (“FLY20”, “THAI30”, “VACAY20”, etc) which entered during the booking decreases the price of a flight ticket. The savings vary but typically you can expect to save 10-30%.
Promotion code is used to mark a popular holiday (especially Black Friday and Cyber Monday), a new route, an anniversary, etc – and works only on the AirAsia website. It can be also a quick way of delivering last-minute discounts to customers.
E-gift vouchers are more scarce. They usually give the discount expressed as a specific amount (A$50, RP500.000, RM20, etc), not a percentage. Vouchers are typically given away with a flight purchase.
PLEASE NOTE: This page is frequently updated with new AirAsia promo codes and vouchers.
