Malaysia Airlines pilots cleared in drug tests after officer caught with 25kg ecstasy

A Malaysia Airlines second officer was arrested at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport with 25 kg of ecstasy pills and 2.7 g of methamphetamine while riding in the cockpit jump seat, triggering a mandatory fleet‑wide drug screening that has now cleared all active pilots, Malaysia Aviation Group confirmed. Cabin crew screening of 2,840 Malaysia Airlines staff begins 18 August, while the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia has issued a directive requiring every airline to test 100% of flight and cabin crew within 30 days — a national regulatory response that tightens oversight across the sector.

American Airlines passenger loses wife’s business class dessert over cabin rules — sparks debate

A viral incident on an American Airlines flight from Aruba to Charlotte last week ignited debate after a passenger’s husband carried her untouched business-class bread roll and cake—items she couldn’t eat because of gluten and dairy allergies—to his economy seat and the crew confiscated and discarded both. The enforcement exposed the gap between official policy and on-the-ground cabin norms: American Airlines has no published rule barring food from crossing between cabins. For couples who split upgrades, the outcome now depends almost entirely on crew discretion, with no guarantee that even completely uneaten premium items will survive the curtain. The incident echoes a similar United Airlines manicotti dispute three years ago, suggesting a pattern that could harden this summer.

Malaysia Airlines and Tourism New Zealand launch major partnership to boost travel to Auckland

Malaysia Airlines and Tourism New Zealand formalized a two-year strategic partnership on May 5, 2026, targeting coordinated demand stimulation on the Kuala Lumpur–Auckland corridor through joint marketing campaigns, travel agent familiarization trips, and co-developed market programs. The deal positions Malaysia Airlines as a primary APAC gateway to New Zealand for travelers connecting through Kuala Lumpur, with the airline's oneworld membership enabling onward connectivity via partner carriers. The partnership is marketing-led, not a capacity commitment — no new frequencies or aircraft upgrades have been announced. Those planning business class travel to New Zealand should monitor Q3 2026 for promotional inventory before potential demand-driven tightening.

Singapore Airlines reclaims Skytrax ‘World’s Best Airline’ title for sixth time, displacing Qatar Airways

Singapore Airlines has reclaimed the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Award for world's best airline — its sixth title — displacing Qatar Airways after a single year at the top. A survey of nearly 24.8 million travellers from more than 100 nationalities rated over 300 airlines, placing Cathay Pacific third, ANA All Nippon Airways fourth, and Turkish Airlines fifth. AirAsia stretched its record low-cost streak to 17 consecutive years while Scoot held the long-haul low-cost crown for a sixth straight year. SIA's next A350-900 first and business seats, however, now carry a Q1 2027 target.

Kuala Lumpur challenges Singapore and Bangkok for Southeast Asia’s aviation hub crown

Kuala Lumpur is mounting a serious challenge to Singapore and Bangkok for Southeast Asia’s aviation gateway crown, leveraging a new network of travel-trade partnerships across five ASEAN markets and expanding Malaysia Airlines’ route map to convert connecting passengers into stopover visitors. Kuala Lumpur International Airport handled 63.3 million passengers in 2025, closing the gap with Singapore Changi’s 69.98 million, while Bangkok’s two-airport system processed nearly 90 million combined. Malaysia Aviation Group is now signing agreements in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines to fill those seats. But Changi’s network depth and Bangkok’s tourism appeal remain formidable, and the real prize is not just transit traffic but convincing passengers to leave the airport. With Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines launching a joint business partnership in January 2026, premium travelers on the Singapore–Kuala Lumpur corridor gain new fare choices and reciprocal lounge access.

Flyers’ Choice Awards 2026: Asian carriers dominate, European airlines miss podium

Passenger sentiment in the 2026 Flyers' Choice Awards skews decisively toward Asia. Singapore Airlines won four categories, including the top peace-of-mind ranking, while Qantas and Etihad Airways followed in second and third. Roughly 40,000 international travelers cast votes, and European network carriers failed to reach the podium in any global premium cabin, crew, or livery category. EasyJet tied for third in low-cost behind Vietjet and AirAsia; airBaltic placed sixth in peace of mind. As of August 23, 2026, these results remain a consumer-sentiment snapshot, not an operational safety audit.
