This airport is named after Tjilik Riwut, the second Governor of Central Kalimantan. Garuda, Sriwijaya Air and Batavia Air all fly to Jakarta. Susi Air flies daily to Muara Teweh, continuing to Banjarmasin.

Palangkaraya city info

Palangkaraya is the capital of the province of Central Kalimantan with the population of 165,000, situated in the upstream region of the Kahayan river. As the Capital of the province, Palangkaraya can be easily reached from Jakarta, Surabaya, Banjamasin, Samarinda, Balikpapan and other points on the island. Since Soeharto leadership era, this city is proposed to be the new administration centre of Indonesia (capital), considering that Jakarta will be focused only for business and financial centre.

Kalimantan Tengah (Central Kalimantan) province was established since 23 May 1957. It was Sukarno, Indonesian independence proclamator, who initiated the contsructions of the city of Palangkaraya, the capital of the new proviince. Initially, Palangkaraya was prepared for new capital of Indonesia, replacing Jakarta, and still a discourse until recent days. It make Palangkaraya become one of the most well constructions-planned city in Indonesia.

The major population is Muslim while there are also Christian and Dayak people among them. Many people in Palangkaraya speak the Indonesian language as well as the local dialects such as Dayak Ngaju, Dayak Maanyan etc. However, the usage or Banjar Language is more observable than the local Dayak dialects.
