Sriwijaya: the essential airline guide
Sriwijaya Air is an Indonesian airline based in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta. The airline was established and started operations on November 2003. It operates domestic flights to around 43 destinations: 41 domestic and 2 international (Penang and Singapore). Sriwijaya Air has grown to almost 200 flights per day and has carried 8 million passengers in 2011 - which means that it controls 12.5% of the Indonesian domestic aviation market.
Sriwijaya Air fleet operates 38 airplanes with an average age of 25 years, and it consits of: Boeing 737-200, Boeing 737-300, Boeing 737-400, Boeing 737-500, Boeing 737-800. The carrier flies to 43 Indonesian domestic destinations.
In 2011 Sriwijaya Air announced that they are going to buy 22 planes to strengthen its fleet. The new planes will include twelve Boeing 737-500s, five Boeing 737-800 NGs and five Embraer E-190s. The arrival of these new airplanes will help to expand its flight routes and rise the level of services - new Embraer aircrafts will serve small airports in Papua, NTT and Maluku, the Boeing 737-500s will be used for both business and economic class, while the Boeing 737-800 will be help to introduce new flights to Australia, China and other medium range routes. The first 737-800 arrival is expected in September 2012.
Airline's main hub is Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta. There are also several secundary hubs: Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, Kuala Namu International Airport and Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar.
In terms of security, Sriwijaya Air is the only Indonesian airline that operates and maintains its aircrafts without fatal accidents. Sriwijaya Air is listed in category 1 by Indonesian Civil Aviation Authority for airline safety quality. Although, in the same time, it is also blacklisted in EU. The average aircraft age is 24 years, but in 2012 the arrival of 22 new airplanes is expected to replace the ageing fleet.

Check-in and boarding
It is expected that the Sriwijaya Air passengers finish the check-in process at least 1 hour and 45 minutes before the flight schedule. Check-in can be done at check-in counters at the airport. On the arrival at the airport, present your passport or identity card at check-in counter and proceed to the boarding gate. For international flights you should also bring your passport.
Delayed or cancelled flights

The hand (cabin) baggage must be not bigger than 55cm x 35cm x 25 cm.
The passenger can also carry the checked baggage with a total weight of 20 kg, free of charge. The exception are flights on Jakarta - Tanjung Pinang route, with a lower limit of 15 kilograms. You will be charged for the excess baggage.
Children and infants
Children fare refers to a fare for a person who has reached his/her 2nd but not his/her 12th birthday at the start of travel. Infant fare refers to the fare for a person who has not reached his/her 2nd birthday.
